The new Audi R8 LMX is the most powerful road-going version of the super sports car. Based on the V10 Plus R8, it is available exclusively as the coupe with an Audi Space Frame aluminium body. It’s 5.2 litre engine produces 570 hp and 398 lbs ft. It will reach 62 mph from rest in 3.4 seconds, and continue on to a top speed of 198 mph. It is available to order around the time of the Goodwood Festival of Speed (26th-29th June 2014) and costs £160,025 OTR with a limited production of 99 cars worldwide.
The seven-speed S-tronic, dual clutch gearbox is standard here and transfers the power to the permanent Quattro four wheel drive through 19″, 20 spoke alloy wheels. Hiding behind the wheels on the front axle are huge 380 mm calipers, ready to scrub tremendous speed off the carbon ceramic discs.
Colours to choose from are either; Ara Blue (pictured) crystal effect, Daytona Grey matt, or Mythos Black metallic. Carbon fibre is a recurring material on the new flagship R8. The large rear spoiler, front spoiler lip, side blades, engine compartment cover, door mirror casings, and rear diffuser are all made from Carbon Fibre-Reinforced Polymer. The front air intakes, and front and rear grilles are finished in titanium grey, whilst the sports exhaust system tips are high-gloss black.
The exclusive blue continues throughout the cabin. The bucket seats are upholstered in Fine Nappa leather and finished with Sepang Blue diamond stitching, and the seat backrest covers are finished in the exterior colour. The Sepang Blue diamond stitching continues on the Alcantara headlining, Fine Nappa leather door panels, handbrake lever, centre tunnel console, steering wheel, and instrument cowl.
The new laser lighting will enhance main beam visibility by working with the LED high beam in the R8 LMX. Active from 37 mph, an intelligent sensor detects other road users and adjusts the beams accordingly to avoid dazzle. It will be used for the first time on the R18 e-tron quattro at Le Mans 24 on the 14th and 15th June.
