The MINI John Cooper Works Challenge, premiered at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2016, inspired by the latest MINI Challenge race car. It is limited to 100 units and available to order now from MINI centres across the UK, priced from £32,000.
Initially surprised by the concept of a 5-door MINI (or would that be LARGE?) Cooper, it was great to try out the new, more practical version of the hugely popular hatchback.
Not only were there two extra doors in the shell, a diesel version of the Cooper S motor was hiding under the bonnet, coupled to a six-speed Steptronic gearbox. The whole package is not like MINI of old and I was keen to try it.
“I didn’t realise you wore a skirt…” read a friend’s text message, after sending him a photograph of the New MINI Cooper I had on test for the day. Indeed, it may have that kind of charm about it, but it is often forgotten just how good a drivers’ car the iconic hatchback actually is…
MINI have just unveiled a 5-Door Hatch to join the line-up this Autumn priced from £15,900 OTR. It comes as no surprise that it is not actually ‘mini’ but they had to do something to increase rear leg room.
